At Companies House, hybrid working is about achieving an effective balance between working in the office and working from other appropriate locations. Our approach to hybrid working provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. We currently expect those on hybrid contracts to attend their base office a minimum of one day a week but the exact degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities and should be agreed through discussions with your line manager. The majority of our digital teams are based in our Cardiff head office. The successful candidate must have the ability to regularly attend our Cardiff office to carry out remedial work on our physical infrastructure on a weekly basis in line with our on-call rota.

Job description

The successful candidate will be part of a small network team that supports both on-site and cloud-hosted network services on a 24/7/365 basis (this includes participating in an on-call rota). In addition, you'll be working with colleagues to deliver infrastructure improvements to the existing LAN and WAN infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Providing technical maintenance and support for the Companies House network, both on premise and cloud.
Attending the Cardiff office at least one day a week, and more often if required e.g. upgrading network equipment on site.
Participating in an on-call rota that provides 24/7/365 cover. Please note that this will attract an additional payment.
Assisting in enhancements to cloud-based services and migration of remaining on premise systems.
Implementing technical improvements and upgrades to the on-premise network infrastructure e.g. wi-fi networks and firewalls.
Working closely with colleagues both within the Network Team and the wider IT Services team to resolve service-affecting incidents.

About us

You would be joining a great team of people to work on maintaining our on-premise network infrastructure and help our users and customers stay connected to each other and the resources they need. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in being part of our journey from traditional on-premises networking to the cloud.

The Network Team is part of the IT Services Team which sits in the Digital and Technology Directorate. The Directorate has over 200 internal staff who are supplemented by external contractors and third-party resources as necessary.

The IT Services Team is responsible for day-to-day support and maintaining the availability of all IT services within the organisation including both the customer-facing systems used by the public and the internal systems used by staff.

Inclusive and diverse teams are important to us. We’re keen to create an environment that works for everyone, and we particularly encourage applications from different underrepresented demographics.

We’ll support you to meet other commitments and help you find a better work-life balance.

The role will be based at the Cardiff office but hybrid working is encouraged. You will be expected to attend the Cardiff office at least one day per week and whenever network support or technical upgrade requires a physical presence.
