Join our team as Senior Operational Safety Advisor Land Transportation!
In this role, you will shape bp’s approach to land transportation safety, including road or rail. As subject matter expert, you’ll integrate Group requirements into the Operating Management System, guide our Life‑Saving Rules, and act as custodian of our land transportation monitoring tools, methodologies and definitions.
You’ll partner closely with businesses and other HSE&C teams to provide input on risk, be part of incident investigation or perform gap assessments. You will provide expert advice, coaching and capability development. You will work to achieve an integrated, consistent and standardized approach in managing land transportation risk and barriers as well as identify improvement opportunities.
In this role, You will:
Be the owner of the Driving Safety GDP, Safe Movement of Rail GDP, and Mobile Equipment GDP. Provide advice, clarifications and evaluate deviation and extension requests from the businesses.
Lead the development of land transportation safety strategy for bp, to drive where possible consistency and standardization in approach and standards.
Lead writing of land transportation related SORC/GORC papers.
Act as Subject Matter Expert for the “Driving” Life-Saving Rule.
Support the line to deliver the intent of OMS to systematically identify land transportation safety hazards, assess risk, and implement and maintain risk reduction measures.
Develop guides (GGs), policies, procedures, processes and standards at bp Group level.
Support businesses to drive continuous improvement on land transportation safety including AI.
Develop Self Verification protocols to verify conformance with land transportation safety requirements and provide support to businesses on this.
Monitor health of land transportation safety through metrics, KPI’s, trend analysis.
Support development of new land transportation, safety leading and lagging metrics.
Assist in developing land transportation safety communication, competency and training offers.
Be owner of the Driving Safety Questionnaire and first point of contact with the IT vendor.
Collaborate with bp Fleet Cluster Category Manager to implement new vehicle technologies.
Drive consistency of land transportation safety inputs to entity risk registers across businesses.
Support development of implementation plans for bp’s land transportation safety processes and associated supporting documents.
Lead the relevant bp global Community of Practice to share learnings, successful practices and continuous improvements, build capability and foster professional pride in the discipline.
Act as bp representative on the IOGP Land Transportation subcommittee and any external NGO’s, benchmarking groups or industry groups.
Benchmark internal and external performance to identify improvement opportunities and actively seek and share learning.
Provide general HSE&C support to the business.
What you need to be successful:
Degree level education or equivalent experience in engineering, safety or relevant technical field
Proficiency in English
Expertise in land transportation safety
Extensive understanding of land transportation activity
Ability to translate technical skills into pragmatic advice and support
Ability to influence across all levels in bp
