Our client is a leading engineering business delivering bespoke mechanical solutions to the Energy and Renewable Energy sectors, supporting some of the world's largest organisations including Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi and MAN.
They design and manufacture complex engineered equipment including gas turbine packages, process skids, exhaust systems, ducting, structural steelwork, pressure vessels and heat exchangers for projects across Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Waste-to-Energy and traditional power generation.
Following significant growth, the business continues to invest heavily in its UK engineering capability. As part of this expansion, they are looking to recruit their first dedicated Piping Engineer, creating an opportunity for someone to become the technical specialist within the business.
The Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary Mechanical Engineering team, you will take ownership of piping design activities across a broad range of bespoke energy projects.
You'll be responsible for producing compliant piping layouts, performing engineering calculations and pipe stress analysis, reviewing P&IDs and supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and installation.
This is a technically challenging position offering exposure to complex engineering projects across the rapidly growing Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Waste-to-X sectors.
Your responsibilities will include:
Producing piping layouts, routing studies and detailed 3D models for process plants, gas turbine packages, skids and modular systems. Carrying out pipe stress and flexibility analysis, including support design, nozzle load assessments and thermal expansion calculations. Producing detailed engineering calculations using software and hand calculations where appropriate. Reviewing customer specifications, P&IDs, engineering drawings and technical documentation. Ensuring all designs comply with relevant international standards including ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, EN 13480 and PED. Working closely with CAD Engineers to develop detailed manufacturing drawings. Checking and approving engineering work completed by colleagues. Supporting customer design reviews and providing technical advice throughout project delivery. Collaborating with Mechanical, Structural, Project Engineering and Manufacturing teams. Supporting continuous improvement and development of engineering standards and best practice. What We're Looking For
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Minimum of 3 years' experience in piping design, process plant or pipe stress analysis. Around 6 years' experience for candidates seeking Senior Engineer level. Experience producing piping layouts and interpreting P&IDs. Knowledge of one or more of the following standards:
ASME B31.1 ASME B31.3 EN 13480 PED 2014/68/EU
Experience using Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, CAESAR II or similar piping design software. Strong understanding of engineering calculations including pipe stress, flexibility, support design and pressure calculations. Excellent communication skills with a methodical and detail-focused approach. Previous experience within the Energy, Oil & Gas, Process Plant, Hydrogen or Industrial sectors would be highly advantageous. The Package
