Job Description - Senior Policy Advisor, Global Clean Power Diplomacy (Internal Opportunity)

The Global Clean Power Diplomacy Team is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to advance work on global coal-to-clean (not via gas) transitions for a period of 12 months. The successful candidate will lead delivery of a work programme on global power sector diplomacy, providing thought leadership, stakeholder engagement, and team and project management on coal exit and clean power outcomes, working closely with E3G-hosted energy transition alliances and International Hub colleagues. They will also contribute to work on multilateral energy diplomacy outcomes.  




Role 


The role will include the following responsibilities (subject to change): 



  • Day-to-day management of a major funded work programme on global coal-to-clean power transitions diplomacy within the GCPD team, ensuring effective strategic delivery as well as grant management. 



  • Lead thought leadership, produce analysis, and deliver external engagement on global coal-to-clean priorities, overseeing a small team to produce content for diplomatic audiences on global coal exit (accelerating coal retirement, ending the new coal pipeline) and clean power deployment, collaborating with the GCPD Research and Analysis team, Asia Team, and wider International Hub, as well as the Powering Past Coal Alliance Secretariat. 



  • Develop political and policy analysis and support external engagement on clean power and electrification outcomes, working closely with external partner campaigns and networks such as the Global Clean Energy Network (GCEN). 



  • Organise and deliver key strategic events and convenings on global clean power transformation, including flagship moments for London Climate Action Week. 



  • Contribute to multilateral energy transition diplomacy strategy and advocacy, driving progress on energy transition outcomes in key international forums such as COP31.  



Person description 


You are a highly motivated professional with a track record of delivering impactful advocacy and engagement on energy transition diplomacy. 



You have a strategic mindset and are driven by using collaboration and coalition-building to achieve impactful outcomes.  



You have strong project management skills which enable you to manage day-to-day delivery of multiple projects and priorities, often under tight timelines.  




You have strong communication skills and an ability to condense and communicate complex information for clear, targeted analysis and advice for varied stakeholders.  




Experience and skills 



  • Demonstrable influencing skills and strategic approach, with a track record of delivering advocacy outcomes on energy transition and / or other climate policy. 



  • Strong project management skills, including demonstrable experience managing multiple complex priorities and projects under tight timelines.  



  • Experience of budget and grant management, preferably in the context of grant-funded work.  



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey information and arguments to others in a clear, accessible and convincing way.   



  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to form high-trust relationships with external stakeholders and act confidently as an E3G representative with partners and across networks.
