Job Description - Senior Practitioner - Assessment Team

Senior Practitioner - Assessment Team (Permanent Role)
Location: Plough Lane
Salary: £38,223 - £42,403 plus a market supplement of £5,000 per year (£43,223 - £47,403 total)

Join our Assessment Team and make a real difference in the lives of children and young people in Herefordshire. We are seeking a dedicated Senior Practitioner to play a crucial role in supporting children and families, leading practice development, and mentoring less experienced staff.

The Role:

As a Senior Practitioner, you will be responsible for completing holistic, child-centred assessments and working closely with families and professionals to develop SMART outcome-focused plans. You will also play a vital role in supporting the professional development of your team and ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of complex cases.

  • Provide case reflection and practice management to ensure compliance with policies and standards.

  • Mentor and support apprentices, students, and junior staff.

  • Lead on practice development and training within the service.

  • Attend court as required and liaise with legal services.

  • Foster strong relationships with families, partner agencies, and legal services.

  • Promote a culture of high-quality social work practice and continuous professional development.

  • Ensure that children and families' voices are heard and integrated into assessments and plans.

About You:

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) with SWE registration.

  • Experience in assessing children and young people's needs in a statutory setting.

  • Strong understanding of national and local policies and statutory guidance.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to support and develop staff through mentoring and reflective supervision.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing demands effectively.

  • Commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and safeguarding practices.
