Senior Project Manager Vacancy

Cogent Skills has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager.

The Nuclear Skills Delivery Group (NSDG) is expanding its operations to include the letting of contracts to third parties to manage the delivery of a number of workstreams and associated projects forming part of a significant programme of work designed to address and resolve the most pressing skills issues affecting the nuclear industry. This is a large-scale project which is national and industry wide with strong collaboration from all. This project has been commissioned to provide solutions to the industry’s critical skills shortage and to build skills and talent to support the industry’s future, working alongside the industry’s most senior leaders.

This is a large-scale project involving significant HMG and industry commitment with strong collaboration from all.

This role will work with the Industry Project Leads who are responsible for the delivery of each of the workstreams, providing project management skills to ensure the successful delivery of a large programme of work. The Senior Project Manager will support Industry Project Leads to deliver their projects to time, cost and quality, alongside realising expected benefits. They will also share and establish good project management practice, systems and processes and ensure that plans and controls are in place and progress tracking milestones achieved.
This role can be based anywhere in the UK.

Remuneration Package



Salary approx. £60,000 per annum dependent on experience

Key Accountabilities
·

Providing programme/project management expertise to support the delivery of each workstream, working specifically with a project lead from industry.
·

Coaching and mentoring others, working with the senior leadership team to build and develop project management capability within the Cogent Skills Group and developing and implementing an effective approach to knowledge transfer across project teams.
·

Provide leadership, direction, and support to Project Managers, ensuring alignment with overall strategic and programme objectives and that the delivery team are equipped to adapt to new processes, systems, and ways of working.
·

Work with the Programme Operations and Planning Lead to drive progress towards successful delivery reporting to the Nuclear Skills Delivery Board.
·

Ensuring stakeholder engagement with the aim of ensuring that stakeholders buy into design products and services.
·

Developing and implementing project management systems, controls and processes appropriate for the effective management and delivery of the programme to meet stakeholder requirements. Ensuring consistency of approach across projects and programmes.
·

Producing appropriate guidance and templates to support project development and delivery.
·

Identify, manage, and mitigate project and programme level risks. Ensure any changes to project scope/requirements are controlled and issues logged and resolved with minimal impact on the project/programme.
·

Build productive relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders across the sector, working in collaboration with cross-organisational teams to drive and progress projects in accordance with plans and desired outcomes and benefits.
·

Produce progress reports and board level papers for meetings and key stakeholders.
·

Identify interdependencies between workstreams and ensure that these are effectively managed, opportunities to maximise effective delivery recognised and implemented and any issues resolved.
·

Be a key point of contact for both the internal team and external stakeholders during the life of the programme.
·

Ensure KPIs, outputs and desired benefits and outcomes are identified, tracked and achieved.

Delivery of project objectives to time cost and quality constraints.

Essential Knowledge Skills and Qualifications
·

Proven and extensive experience in project and programme management within a complex, public/private sector environment, preferably in a related industry (project management, nuclear, energy, engineering).
·

Strong understanding of Project Management methodologies and techniques and how to deploy them according to the needs of the project/programme.
·

Experience of contract management and an understanding of commercial best practice.
·

Excellent influencing and communication skills including with senior stakeholders.
·

Ability to analyse and translate complex information to support effective decision making.
·

Ability to effectively adapt and deploy good practice in project management to drive and support the delivery of large-scale projects and programmes.
·

Ability to draft board level reports and ensure all stakeholders are kept up to date with progress.
