Rust Software Engineer | Up to £145,000 | Remote

About the Role

My client, a pioneering UK technology firm redefining global communication networks. They are building solutions that operate where standard systems fail — powering resilient, far-reaching connectivity across critical environments.

They are seeking a Rust Engineer to join their core R&D team and lead development of the next generation of their tech stack and platform. You will write high-performance, production-grade Rust that directly shapes how networks run worldwide.

This isn’t just coding — you’ll build systems that solve genuinely complex problems for customers and partners across the globe.

What You’ll Be Building

* Develop and maintain high-performance DTN products, platforms, and APIs — predominantly in Rust — using gRPC and Protocol Buffers

* Architect and scale distributed, cloud-native systems running on Kubernetes

* Own code from design through to production: implement, debug, test, and optimise

* Modernise and evolve existing capabilities with cutting-edge approaches

* Collaborate across full-stack teams to pair robust backend logic with seamless user experiences

* Translate technical and commercial needs into elegant, maintainable Rust solutions

* Create documentation, tutorials, and sample code to empower developers and customers using The Relay Network

* Support customer onboarding — guiding integration and ensuring systems perform at scale

* Benchmark and refine performance for large-scale global deployments

What You Bring — Essentials

* Strong professional experience writing production Rust — you understand idiomatic design, concurrency, and performance characteristics

* Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline

* Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, customers, and stakeholders alike

* Curiosity that goes deeper than code: you want to understand the business and the ecosystem your systems serve

* Experience working directly with end-users — diagnosing issues, proposing solutions, and building trust

* A genuine passion for championing great technology

Highly Desirable

* Hands-on experience designing distributed microservice or event-driven architectures

* Track record of well-tested, scalable Rust code — leveraging concurrency patterns, unit/integration testing, containerisation, and CNCF ecosystem tools

* Cloud platform experience — GCP, AWS, or equivalent
