Job Description - Senior Sales Executive

Senior Sales Executive – Wholesale Produce

Location: Leicester Wholesale Market

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + Bonus (OTE up to 10%)

Hours: 40 hours/week across 5 days (early starts from 2am, some Saturday work)

Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, bonus scheme - performance related

About the Opportunity

We’re exclusively supporting a leading name in the UK fresh produce industry to recruit a Senior Sales Executive for their high-performing Leicester wholesale team. This is a unique opportunity to join a long-established business with a strong reputation in the wholesale market space.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, early-morning environment and enjoys the buzz of traditional market trading. You’ll be selling fresh produce directly to trade customers, managing your own pitch, and contributing to one of the most profitable teams in the country.

The Role:

  • Sales & Customer Management: Sell a wide range of fresh produce (salads, traditional veg, root veg, exotics, stone fruits) to trade customers including corner shops, veg stalls, and independent SMEs.
  • Pitch Management: Take ownership of your pitch, supported by an assistant and porters. You’ll be responsible for setup, sales, and smooth daily operations.
  • New Business Development: Follow up on leads and build relationships with new customers across the region.
  • Admin & Invoicing: Handle basic admin and invoicing duties related to your sales.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other salespeople and porters—teamwork is essential, especially during peak times.

Working Hours

  • Start time: 2am, finish around 9:30am
  • 5 days/week with some Saturday working (rota-based, team-managed for fairness)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience in wholesale markets or fresh produce sales (e.g. Birmingham or Leicester markets, or similar) is desirable however not essential
  • Background in customer-facing roles—retail, market stalls, or independent grocery
  • Resilient and robust—able to work under pressure in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working in cold winters and hot summers, often standing for long periods
  • Forklift experience or familiarity with trolleys and manual handling is a plus

  • KPIs focused on sales and profit margins—you’ll manage your own margins based on seasonal pricing
