Altrad are currently looking for an experienced Senior Technical Safety Engineer to join our engineering team.
This role will support clients across the energy, chemical, and high-hazard industries, delivering technical and process safety services throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and FEED through to EPC. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, act as a trusted advisor to clients, and ensure the delivery of high-quality safety engineering solutions.
Key Deliverables:
* Lead, facilitate and deliver technical safety studies including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, QRA and Safety Case development.
* Prepare, review and approve technical safety reports, philosophies, specifications and other safety documentation.
* Perform and review consequence modelling (fire, explosion and dispersion) and quantitative risk assessments using industry-standard software such as DNV PHAST and SAFETI.
* Provide independent technical assurance and peer review of project deliverables.
* Ensure all technical safety deliverables are completed to the required quality standards, within budget and to agreed project schedules.
* Act as the primary technical safety interface with clients, building strong working relationships and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
* Represent Altrad as a subject matter expert during client meetings, workshops and regulatory engagements.
* Support business development through proposal preparation, technical presentations and thought leadership activities.
* Support Project Managers with planning, estimating and resourcing technical safety scopes of work.
* Promote consistency, quality and continuous improvement across technical safety deliverables.
* Apply relevant UK and international legislation, standards and industry best practice, including COMAH/Seveso and IEC 61508/61511.
* Maintain awareness of emerging safety technologies, methodologies and industry developments.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
* Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
* Minimum of 7 years' experience in Process/Technical Safety Engineering, preferably within a consultancy or engineering services environment.
* Demonstrable experience leading and facilitating HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL and other hazard and risk studies.
* Proficient in consequence modelling and risk assessment software such as DNV PHAST, SAFETI or equivalent.
* Strong understanding of COMAH/Seveso legislation, IEC 61508/61511 and recognised risk management methodologies.
* Proven ability to manage client relationships and contribute to business development activities.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration is desirable.
* TÜV or recognised HAZOP/LOPA Leader certification is highly desirable.
* Experience of UK CDM Regulations and their application to engineering projects is advantageous.
* Experience supporting hydrogen, CCUS or wider energy transition projects is desirable.
* Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
* Commercial awareness with an understanding of consultancy project delivery.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
