Job Purpose

As a Senior Technical Support Officer, you will lead the technical support function within Building Control, ensuring the delivery of efficient, customer-focused administrative, financial, and technical support services. You will supervise Technical Support staff, manage Building Control systems and processes, and support the effective operation of the Building Control Service.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

• Lead and manage the Technical Support function within Building Control.
  
  


• Supervise and provide guidance to Technical Support staff.
  
  


• Act as the first point of contact for the Building Control IT system.
  
  


• Validate Building Regulations applications, amendments, cancellations, Initial Notices, and Dangerous Structure notices.
  
  


• Calculate and process Building Control fees.
  
  


• Process property enquiries relating to Building Regulations approvals and completion certificates.
  
  


• Raise invoices and monitor payments.
  
  


• Request purchase orders and process financial transactions.
  
  


• Maintain Building Control records, filing systems, and electronic document management systems.
  
  


• Read, interpret, and scale architectural drawings and technical plans.
  
  


• Support performance management and reporting activities.
  
  


• Assist with service improvement initiatives and operational projects.
  
  


• Provide high-quality customer support to residents, developers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  
  


• Support the management of dangerous structure notifications.
  
  


• Produce and maintain performance, financial, and administrative data.
  
  


• Promote and market Building Control services to prospective customers.
  
  


• Ensure compliance with Building Control legislation and Council procedures.
  
  

Essential Experience Required

• Experience working within Building Control, Planning, Development Management, Regulatory Services, or a similar Local Authority environment.
  
  


• Experience validating Building Regulations applications.
  
  


• Experience providing technical and administrative support services.
  
  


• Experience supervising staff or coordinating team activities.
  
  


• Experience managing customer enquiries and service requests.
  
  


• Experience processing invoices, payments, and financial information.
  
  


• Experience working with document management systems and databases.
  
  


• Experience interpreting technical documents and architectural plans.
  
  


• Experience producing management information and performance reports.
  
  


• Strong customer service experience.
  
  


• Experience working to strict deadlines and managing competing priorities.
  
  

Essential Qualifications Required

• Educated to A-Level, HND level, or equivalent.
  
  


• GCSE/O-Level Maths and English or equivalent literacy and numeracy skills.
  
  


• Right to Work in the UK.
  
  

Additional Information to Note

• Working hours: 36 hours per week.
  
  


• Hybrid working arrangement.
  
  


• Minimum 2 days per week office-based.
  
  


• Experience with Building Control legislation highly desirable.
  
  


• Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings is essential.
  
  


• Supervisory responsibility for Technical Support staff.
  
  


• Attendance at occasional evening and weekend meetings may be required.
  
  


• Strong IT skills required, including experience with Microsoft Office and document management systems.
