An established planning and development consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Town Planner to its York team. The practice advises a broad client base and has built a strong reputation for clear, commercially sensible planning advice.

The opportunity​

The team’s workload includes residential development, commercial schemes, rural diversification, site promotion and planning appeals. The central purpose of the position is to manage projects from appraisal to determination while working closely with experienced Directors.

Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.

Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.

Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.

Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.

Support larger instructions while steadily increasing your own project responsibility.

About you

Mrtpi or approaching chartership; consultancy or development management experience; confident client communication. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long-term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.

Package and working arrangements

The salary is £38,000–£48,000 plus benefits. The wider package includes hybrid working, pension, professional subscriptions and progression to Principal Planner. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
