Job Description - SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant

Do you have a calm, caring nature and a real passion for supporting children who need a little extra help? Are you looking for a role where your patience, kindness and dedication genuinely make a difference every single day?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in St Austell is looking for a compassionate SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with children who need encouragement, understanding and consistency to thrive — both in and out of the classroom.

About the school

This school puts nurture, inclusion and wellbeing at the heart of everything they do. Every child is known, valued and supported to feel safe and confident in their learning. You’ll be working alongside experienced teachers and support staff who are passionate about helping pupils reach their full potential and who truly value teamwork.

The role

As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll support pupils with a range of additional needs, working one-to-one, in small groups and within the classroom. The role includes personal care, so confidence, professionalism and sensitivity are essential.

You’ll help children access learning, build independence and grow in confidence, while supporting their social, emotional and behavioural needs throughout the school day. No two days will be the same, but every day will be meaningful.

Who they’re looking for

You’ll have previous experience supporting children with SEN.. You’ll bring a calm, patient and nurturing approach, with behaviour management rooted in empathy, consistency and understanding. Strong communication skills, reliability and the ability to use your initiative are key — along with a genuine commitment to children’s wellbeing and development.

What’s on offer

  • A warm, friendly and welcoming staff team
  • Supportive, approachable leadership
  • A positive, inclusive school culture
  • Ongoing professional development
  • A role where your contribution is truly valued

Why work with Long-Term Teachers?

We’re an independent education agency that believes recruitment should feel personal, not transactional. Your dedicated consultant will take the time to understand you — your experience, goals and what matters most to you — and support you every step of the way.

You’ll also benefit from:

  • Guaranteed Pay Scheme opportunities
  • Access to long-term and permanent roles
  • Interview preparation and honest advice
  • Full support with compliance and onboarding
  • AWR compliance and statutory employment rights

If you’re an experienced SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant looking for a fulfilling role in St Austell, where you can make a real difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.
