Job Description - Service Desk Engineer

Role: Senior IT Engineer
Location: Hybrid - Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum

Are you an experienced IT professional looking to take the next step in your career? We're seeking a Senior IT Engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in developing and enhancing our internal IT operations. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with the Director of IT, drive service improvements, and shape the technology landscape of a dynamic and forward-thinking business.

In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex issues, implementing high-quality IT solutions, and ensuring a seamless user experience across the organisation. You'll provide 2nd and 3rd line support to end-users both remotely and on-site and be a key contributor to building a robust, secure, and scalable IT environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide responsive and effective IT support, ensuring incidents and requests are resolved in line with SLAs.
  • Manage and track support tickets using an ITSM platform.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues across Windows and Mac environments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to prevent issue recurrence and improve service delivery.
  • Carry out regular patching and system hardening to maintain system security and performance.
  • Share expertise with team members and contribute to skills development through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

About You:

  • Proven experience in a senior IT support role, ideally within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and desktop support.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence administration.
  • Awareness of cyber security best practices and principles.
  • Exposure to Mac OS support and familiarity with AWS environments is advantageous.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and a genuine enthusiasm for technology.
