Sewing Machinist

Location: Southend-on-Sea, Essex

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm (overtime as required)

Salary: £13 per hour (flat rate)

Earnings: On target earnings of £35,000 (can increase to £40,000 with overtime)

Role Overview:

Our client is looking for an experienced Sewing Machinist to join their busy production team in Southend-on-Sea. The ideal candidate will be skilled in using industrial sewing machines and comfortable working with a variety of fabrics and sewing techniques. This role is suited to someone confident in working independently to produce high-quality sewn covers from pre-cut patterns.

This is a piece rate-based role with strong earning potential for efficient and skilled machinists.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate industrial sewing machines to a high standard.
• Work with twin needle, top stitch, and overlocking techniques.
• Sew using piping cord and Velcro as needed.
• Handle a wide range of fabrics including velvet, thick pile, plastic, and faux leather.
• Take a cut set of patterns and sew them fully to complete custom covers.
• Maintain quality control and meet production targets.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Proven experience as a Sewing Machinist in a production environment.
• Skilled in industrial sewing techniques.
• Comfortable working with varied and sometimes challenging materials.
• Ability to follow patterns and produce complete, high-quality finished products.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
