Job Description - SHEQ Advisor

Role: SHEQ Advisor

Location: Washington

Salary: £45,000

Hours: Full-time

Employment Type: Permanent

Seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager to support the delivery team. The ideal candidate will provide specialist coaching, advice, and training to drive legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance, aiming for net zero and improved sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Implementation:

Support projects in executing the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy.
Ensure managers take full responsibility for their health and safety obligations.
Tender and Contract Award Process:

Provide Health, Safety, and Environmental input during the tender and contract award phases.
Health & Safety Expertise:

Act as a central point of contact for Health & Safety advice.
Ensure the effectiveness of Construction Phase Plans throughout project lifecycles.
Environmental Guidance:

Offer guidance on environmental sustainability to help meet targets and net zero goals.
Accident/Incident Investigations:

Support and conduct accident/incident investigations to identify root causes and communicate preventative measures.
Good Practice Integration:

Challenge current working methods to integrate Health, Safety, and Environmental best practices during design and construction phases.
Behaviour-Based Coaching:

Promote a safe and secure culture through coaching at all project levels.
Industry Liaison:

Engage with the wider construction industry to share and implement lessons learned.
Stakeholder Coordination:

Maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders, HSE, Local Authorities, EA, and SEPA.
CDM Regulation Expertise:

Provide in-depth knowledge and advice on CDM regulations for gas projects, covering Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor roles.
Support and Guidance:

Ensure project representatives are aware of their SHE roles and responsibilities in line with industry standards.
Review contractor documentation and participate in site safety meetings, H&S audits, and inspections.
Independent H&S Audit:

Provide independent H&S audits for project portfolios through pre-construction and construction phases.
CDM Risk Management:

Develop and manage the CDM Risk Register and monitor contractor's temporary works inspections.
Training Needs Assessment:

Assist in reviewing contractor competence and identifying training needs.
Data Reporting:

Provide monthly H&S data and safety statistics to line management.
Internal Relationship Development:

Resolve issues, develop internal learning, and identify collaboration opportunities.Qualifications:

Interpersonal, Supervisory, or Management:

Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to coach and motivate.
Effective communication and influence at all organisational levels.
Ability to recommend and implement preventative actions and new initiatives.
Skilled in developing and delivering engaging and effective training/briefing material.
Strong determination to achieve business goals and personal commitment.Technical or Specialist:

Experienced in auditing and root cause analysis techniques.
Proficient in identifying and addressing resistance patterns and effective problem-solving.
Thorough understanding of CDM Regulations, particularly for Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor roles.Experience, Training, and Qualifications:

Essential:

NEBOSH Certificate with significant relevant construction SHE and gas industry experience.
Knowledge and experience of environmental management requirements.
Current full UK driving licence.
EUSR Cross Country Pipelines/SHEA Gas certification.Desirable:

Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety with extensive relevant SHE and gas industry experience.
Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or engineering institute at an incorporated or chartered level.
