Job Description - Shift Engineer

Are you a qualified Engineer with an electrical bias looking for your next career move? Come and join our friendly team at our site in Ashton Under Lyne!

Here, you will be a key player in ensuring equipment reliability, where you'll dive into reactive repairs and preventive maintenance activities.

You'll also contribute to ongoing improvements while operating around the clock, all within a skilled team.

The Recipe (About the Role)

  • Provide engineering support to production, tackling breakdowns and addressing engineering issues as they arise in the plant.
  • Help us maintain the reliability and availability of our assets by supporting and executing planned maintenance.
  • Take the initiative and work with minimal supervision, resolving problems and prioritising support effectively.
  • Utilise your skills in mechanical, electrical, and PLC control engineering to tackle challenges encountered during your shift.
  • Follow our company practices, procedures, and guidelines to ensure health & safety, food safety, and legal compliance are always top of mind.
  • Oversee external contractors assisting with reactive tasks, ensuring they fully understand and adhere to our company practices and procedures.
  • Familiarise yourself with a variety of engineering assets and demonstrate your ability to work on them.
  • Look for opportunities to enhance the reliability of our assets and improve engineering work processes.
  • Make good use of the CMMS (computerised Maintenance Management System) to log and review the work you perform.
  • Offer training and support to help transfer basic engineering skills to operator tasks.

The Ingredients (What we need from you)

Key Skills

  • Demonstrable mechanical and electrical competence through training and experience.
  • Engineering Qualification or apprenticeship (HNC or above preferred)
  • IT skills to include the use of Computer Maintenance Management Systems

Desirable Skills

  • Engineering experience in a food manufacturing environment. PLC experience
