Shift Manager – Heavy Engineering – £65k + quarterly bonus + overtime + private medical + 10% pension contribution

Samuel Frank is recruiting for a Shift Manager to join heavy engineering manufacturing business operating a large-scale, 24/7 production facility.

This is a senior operational leadership position with significant responsibility for people, production, safety and plant performance. The successful Shift Manager will take overall responsibility for the manufacturing site during their shift, effectively acting as the senior site authority outside normal working hours.

The site incorporates three production units and a warehouse, with approximately 70 employees working across the shift.

We're looking for someone with proven people management experience, ideally from an engineering or manufacturing background, who is confident making decisions, maintaining standards and developing teams.

Key aspects of the Shift Manager role include:

* Overall operational responsibility for a large manufacturing site during assigned shifts.

* Leadership of shift-based employees

* Management of three Production Team Leaders and one Warehouse Team Leader, with additional responsibility for coordinating shift-based engineering resources.

* Responsibility for production performance, health and safety, quality, operational efficiency and maintaining manufacturing standards.

* Managing people-related issues, including performance, attendance, discipline, training and development.

* Working closely with engineering and maintenance teams to manage breakdowns, equipment reliability and production priorities.

* Taking ownership of operational decisions and incident management outside normal management hours.

* Shift pattern is “4 on - 6 off” continuous (comprising of 2 days, 2 nights, 6 off).

* £50k + £15k shift uplift

* Additional annualised payments of approximately £3.5-4k plus a bonus averaging 5% of base salary.

* Total annual earnings will be over £70k

* Private medical cover

Key requirements for the Shift Manager position:

* Previous experience as a Team Leader, Shift Manager, Production Manager or Operations Manager within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

* Proven experience managing people, ideally having previously led teams of at least 7–10 employees.

* An engineering background, either mechanical or electrical, would be advantageous, although experienced manufacturing and operations professionals will also be considered.

* Strong leadership skills, with the confidence to manage challenging situations, maintain standards and hold people accountable.

* Experience handling HR matters, performance management and employee development.

* Good technical understanding of manufacturing processes, production equipment and operational safety.

* A degree or higher-level technical qualification would be beneficial, although relevant practical experience is equally important.

* A logical, structured approach to problem-solving, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

The business is particularly interested in candidates who have developed their careers through engineering into team leadership or production management, although the most important requirements are strong people management skills, sound judgement and the ability to take responsibility for a substantial manufacturing operation.

Location: Deeside / Chester, North West. The site is commutable from Deeside, Chester, Wrexham, Ellesmere Port, Broughton, Liverpool, Northwich, Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington.
