Site Reliability Engineer

Our client, the worlds leading hedge fund is seeking a high-impact Software/ Reliability Engineer to join a critical engineering team responsible for the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of infrastructure supporting portfolio construction and investment technology platforms. This is a unique opportunity for a software engineer who enjoys reliability engineering and wants to operate at the centre of a business where platform performance, stability, and developer productivity directly influence outcomes.

The team is looking for an engineer who combines strong technical depth with leadership qualities. You'll be expected to remain deeply hands-on while taking ownership of key reliability initiatives, driving operational improvements, and helping to establish best practices across the organisation. Success in this role is measured not by the technologies you've used, but by the impact you've delivered through automation, resilience, scalability, and engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, availability, and performance of business-critical production systems.
• Drive observability initiatives across infrastructure and applications, improving monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational insights.
• Lead incident response efforts, root cause investigations, and post-incident reviews to strengthen platform resilience.
• Build automation and tooling that reduce operational overhead and improve engineering efficiency.
• Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
• Partner closely with software engineers to improve system reliability, scalability, and operational maturity.
• Develop internal tooling and automation solutions primarily using Python.
• Manage and enhance infrastructure across both cloud and on-premise environments.
• Influence technical direction and reliability strategy while remaining a highly hands-on individual contributor.
• Champion a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Software Engineering with significant operational responsibilities.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proven Python (or similar) development experience.
• Experience supporting large-scale, distributed production environments.
• Deep understanding of observability, monitoring, alerting, incident management, and operational excellence.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Experience working in hybrid cloud/on-prem infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery practices.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform and/or Ansible.
• Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements to reliability, scalability, efficiency, or developer productivity.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
