Job Description

Cranswick Country Foods is a leading UK food producer supplying premium pork products to major UK retailers, food service providers and international customers.

We are recruiting reliable, hardworking and motivated Abattoir Operatives / Slaughter Operatives to join the day-shift team at the Preston site in Hull. This role involves supporting abattoir operations, meat processing and carcass preparation while maintaining strict food safety, hygiene, quality and health and safety standards.

Previous industry experience may be advantageous. Training and opportunities for career development are available, with the potential for permanent employment.

Key Responsibilities

Operate switching controls to direct carcasses and meat cuts from overhead supply rails to boning tables.
Cut and trim meat to separate muscle, fat and tissue from bones.
Wash, scrape and trim meat to remove blood, foreign material and other unwanted matter.
Divide carcasses and sides of meat into standard cuts, including rumps, flanks and shoulders.
Remove internal fat, blood clots, bruising and other imperfections to prepare meat for processing, packing and distribution.
Operate restraining and stunning equipment in accordance with approved procedures and training.
Perform assigned slaughter and dressing duties in accordance with animal welfare requirements and workplace procedures.
Trim and remove head meat and carry out assigned carcass preparation tasks.
Assist with opening, eviscerating and trimming animal carcasses where trained and authorised.
Follow food safety, hygiene, quality assurance and health and safety procedures at all times.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
Work effectively as part of a team to meet production targets and operational deadlines.
Follow instructions, standard operating procedures and applicable animal welfare requirements.

Previous abattoir, slaughterhouse or meat processing experience is advantageous.

Pay and Benefits

Basic hourly rate: £13.00 per hour, subject to the applicable grade.
Attendance bonus: £1 per hour, subject to the employer's eligibility and payment conditions.
Overtime: Payable for hours worked over 40 hours, in accordance with the applicable overtime terms.
Full-time, Monday-to-Friday day shifts.
Working hours of 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.
