Social, Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Accrington Hours: Full-time Contract: Agency
We are currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant with a sports background to work on a full-time agency basis in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Accrington. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. A background in sports, coaching, mentoring, or youth work is highly desirable, as the role involves using positive relationships, resilience, and teamwork to engage and motivate students.
The Role:
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs. Help manage behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies. Build strong, trusting relationships with students. Encourage participation, confidence, and personal development through engaging activities. Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils' learning and wellbeing. Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEMH, SEND, youth work, or sports coaching. A positive, patient, and resilient approach. Strong communication and behaviour management skills. A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
