The role is critical to ensuring SPEN delivers and evidences its social sustainability commitments, complies with Ofgem requirements, and aligns with industry-wide expectations being developed across UK Transmission Owners. The postholder will embed Social Value into project delivery, procurement and supply chain activities, ensuring a consistent approach through the adoption of the shared UK Transmission Owner methodology, reporting tool and social value metrics. Working with the EPC Contractors, internal stakeholders in Sustainability, Procurement, and Stakeholder Engagement, the Social Value Manager will initiate, promote and deliver social value initiatives to maximise positive socio-economic outcomes across communities, support SPENs Just Transition Strategy, and ensure robust measurement and reporting of social value impacts. Key Accountabilities Social Value Strategy and Governance - Support the implementation of SPENs Social Value Strategy across Transmission projects and programmes. - Initiate, promote and deliver social value initiatives to maximise positive socio-economic outcomes - Embed social value principles into project governance, business planning and delivery activities. - Ensure Social Value commitments align with SPENs Just Transition Strategy, Sustainability Framework and Iberdrola Group objectives. RIIO-T3 Compliance and Industry Alignment - Represent SPT and the projects in cross-industry working groups and stakeholder forums relating to social sustainability and socio-economic value. - Maintain alignment with Ofgem requirements and evolving industry best practice. - Ensure auditable and consistent application of agreed methodologies across the project. Procurement and Supply Chain Integration - Work closely with Procurement teams to embed Social Value requirements into contract documentation, tender evaluations and supplier frameworks. - Ensure Social Value commitments and KPIs are incorporated into mobilisation plans and project delivery requirements. - Support EPCs to develop and deliver robust Social Value plans. - Promote the application of shared supply chain metrics across all major contracts. Project Support and Capability Building - Develop and deliver training, guidance and tools to support Project Managers, site teams and suppliers. - Ensure application of a Social Value Tool in order to create standardised processes and templates for Social Value planning, delivery and reporting. - Build internal capability and understanding of Social Value requirements and opportunities. - Initiate, promote and deliver initiatives that deliver measurable community, economic and environmental benefits. Stakeholder Engagement and Communications - Build strong relationships with communities, local authorities, educational institutions, third-sector organisations and industry partners. - Work closely with Communications teams to develop case studies, impact reports and stakeholder communications. - Promote SPENs Social Value achievements internally and externally. - Support engagement activities that demonstrate the benefits of investment to communities and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities - Implement and manage Social Value delivery across the projects. - Drive consistency in the use of shared methodology, metrics and reporting tools. - Develop and maintain a Social Value plan for the projects with measurable outcomes. - Contribute to Social Value reporting and performance reviews. - Support governance processes relating to Social Value commitments. - Develop collaborative relationships across the business and supply chain. - Monitor industry developments and identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement. Essential Qualifications and Experience - Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience in Sustainability, Social Value, Economic Development, Community Development, Public Policy or a related discipline. - Proven experience delivering Social Value, sustainability or socio-economic programmes within infrastructure, utilities, energy, construction or public-sector environments. - Strong understanding of social sustainability principles and impact measurement. - Demonstrable stakeholder management and influencing skills. Desirable Qualifications and Experience - Experience working within a regulated environment. - Understanding of procurement and contract management processes. - Experience supporting major capital infrastructure programmes. - Professional membership of a relevant institution. - Existing relationships with key stakeholders in local economic development and educational institutions in the south of Scotland Key Skills and Competencies Leadership - Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. - Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills. - Ability to convert ideas into tangible outputs. Communication - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to translate complex requirements into practical guidance. - Strong presentation and facilitation skills. Success Measures The Social Value Manager will be successful when: - The RIIO-T3 shared Social Value methodology, tool and metrics are fully embedded across the projects. - Social Value commitments are consistently integrated into contracts and supplier delivery plans. - Project Managers and suppliers are equipped and trained to support Social Value initiatives effectively. - Reliable, auditable data is available to support regulatory reporting and stakeholder communications. - The projects can demonstrate measurable progress against its Just Transition and Social Sustainability objectives. - Social Value achievements are clearly evidenced, communicated and recognised across the industry.
