Job Description - Social Worker - Education and Wellbeing


Permanent Role With A Local Authority







Job Purpose

As a Social Worker, you will play a vital role in safeguarding and improving outcomes for children, young people, and families. Working within Children's Services, you will assess needs, manage risk, and deliver effective interventions that promote safety, stability, and positive long-term outcomes. You will build strong relationships with children, families, and partner agencies, ensuring that children receive the right support at the right time while contributing to the continuous improvement of services across the borough.













Key Responsibilities



  • Manage a caseload of children, young people, and families, ensuring assessments, plans, and interventions are completed in line with statutory requirements and best practice.

  • Undertake child and family assessments, identifying strengths, risks, and support needs to inform effective care planning.

  • Develop, implement, and review child-centred plans that promote positive outcomes and safeguard children from harm.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with children, young people, families, carers, and partner agencies.

  • Participate in child protection investigations, strategy discussions, case conferences, and court proceedings where required.

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports, assessments, and case records in accordance with legislative and organisational standards.

  • Work collaboratively with education, health, police, and other professionals to deliver coordinated support and achieve the best outcomes for children and families.

  • Support children to remain safely within their families wherever possible, or identify and secure suitable alternative care arrangements when necessary.

  • Promote the voice of the child, ensuring children and young people are actively involved in decisions affecting their lives.

  • Maintain professional standards and contribute to service development, learning, and continuous improvement initiatives.









Requirements

Essential



  • Qualified Social Worker holding a recognised Social Work qualification.

  • Current registration with Social Work England.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and statutory frameworks relating to children and families.

  • Experience of undertaking assessments, care planning, and safeguarding interventions.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing demands effectively.

  • Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.

  • Excellent written, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Desirable



  • Experience working within Children's Social Care services.

  • Experience of court work, child protection, or looked after children services.

  • Knowledge of local authority children's services and multi-agency working arrangements.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.









Additional Information



  • Location: Knowsley (Hybrid Working – attendance at the office 2–3 days per week required)

  • Hours per Week: Flexible working options available, including full-time, part-time, condensed hours, and reduced hours

  • Payment: Bi-Weekly Payments Available

  • Salary: £42839.00 Per Annum
