We have an exciting opportunity for a

Software Development Manager

to join our Development team in Cardiff Bay. ActiveQuote provides Life, Health and Income Protection insurance advice to customers via a wide range of insurers, including Aviva, AXA, Bupa, Vitality, AIG, L&G to name but a few.

We operate some of the UK's leading price comparison sites for Health Insurance, Income Protection and Life Insurance with significant innovations and USPs through our world-leading software. We power some of the UK's leading household comparison sites including MoneySuperMarket, MoneySavingExpert, Go.Compare.

Job Scope

As a Software Development Manager, you will lead and manage development teams, overseeing the design, development, testing and deployment of high-quality software solutions. Reporting to Head of Technology, you will have a key role between the business stakeholders, Product Managers and the engineering team, driving the development of cutting-edge insurance comparison technologies. ensuring the continuous improvement and maintenance of our websites and applications to meet our customers’ and partners’ needs.

Lead and mentor software engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Line manager of software engineers of all levels.
Advocate best practices in the software development lifecycle and processes.
Advocate and prioritize quality, scalability, and maintainability in code development.
Technically engaged with the teams and be part of the engineering decisions.
Drive team performance and productivity. Identify and implement process improvements and engineering best practices to enhance software development efficiency.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Partnership Managers and Stakeholders to align product roadmaps with business strategy.
Facilitate feedback from business stakeholders and incorporate it into the development process.
Works closely with the operational teams to highlight any business process changes or resource requirements in advance.

Skills & Education
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide software professionals.
Proficiency in software development processes, technologies, and agile methodologies.
Proficiency with Continuous Delivery best practices.
Knowledge of security requirements and data handling regulations.
Customer facing digital projects experience.
Solid experience in stakeholder management.
Manage and execute against delivery plans and commitments.
Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication, interpersonal, and mentoring abilities.
A positive team-oriented approach and culture-building capabilities.
Previous line management and performance management experience.
Background working within financial services or regulated environment is desirable.
Experience in using Cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure is desirable.
Experience in Microsoft development stack is desirable.
3+ years of engineering team management experience.
