Outline of role As a Solar PPM Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the performance, reliability and longevity of commercial solar PV systems through planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and inspection activities. Working across a range of customer sites, you will carry out scheduled maintenance visits, identify potential issues before they become faults, and support the continued efficiency and compliance of solar installations. You will be responsible for producing detailed maintenance reports, carrying out testing and inspections, recommending remedial actions, and maintaining accurate records of all works completed. The role requires a proactive individual who can work independently, communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and deliver a high standard of service at all times. Main responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections on commercial Solar PV systems. Complete routine testing and condition assessments of existing solar installations. Analyse on-site test results and compare findings with remote monitoring data. Identify and report defects, performance issues and equipment failures. Undertake minor remedial works and support corrective maintenance activities where required. Produce detailed maintenance reports, including recommendations for repairs or upgrades. Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing results and completed works. Obtain quotations for replacement equipment and materials when necessary. Ensure all activities are completed in line with company procedures, service level agreements and health and safety requirements. Liaise with customers, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure effective communication and service delivery. Knowledge and experience required Previous experience working with commercial Solar PV installations. Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance or electrical maintenance activities. Knowledge of Solar PV systems, inverters, isolators and associated electrical equipment. Experience of low voltage (LV) electrical installations and modifications. Understanding of fault-finding techniques and system performance analysis. Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, Permit to Work systems and safe working practices. Experience using Solar PV testing equipment and monitoring platforms. Ability to work at height and undertake manual handling activities safely. Experience working within retail, commercial or multi-site environments would be advantageous. Willingness to travel and work away from home when required. Skills required Strong communication and customer service skills. Excellent attention to detail and report-writing ability. Effective time management and organisational skills. Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel. Professional and proactive approach to customer relationships. Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and service standards. Qualifications Essential NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent. BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. Inspection and Testing Qualification (2391 or equivalent). Full UK Driving Licence. Desirable Solar PV qualification or recognised industry certification. Experience using Solar PV testing equipment such as Seaward PV testers. IPAF and/or PASMA certification. Drone qualification or operational experience.
