Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Previous experience supporting children with SEN (in education, care, or community roles).

Confidence working with non-verbal/pre-verbal students and adapting communication accordingly.

Ability to assist with personal care needs.

Patience, resilience and a calm approach to challenging behaviour.

Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one).

Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEN.

Facilitate communication using tools such as PECS, Makaton or other visual systems.

Assist with personal care tasks (e.g. toileting, hygiene, feeding) with dignity and respect.

Work alongside class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support learning targets and care plans.

Implement behaviour support strategies and help children manage transitions and routines.

Foster a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
