Job Description - Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Location: Primary Schools within Rhondda Cynon Taff CF37 - CF45

Key Responsibilities:
Support the learning and development of pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
Assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
Develop and implement tailored learning activities and interventions.
Monitor and report on pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
Foster a positive, encouraging, and safe learning atmosphere.
Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
Support pupils with personal care needs if required.
Requirements:
A minimum of 1 years experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a UK primary school, specifically supporting children with special needs.
A relevant qualification in education or childcare (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent).
Strong understanding of the primary school curriculum and strategies for supporting SEN pupils.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable:
Experience with specific educational needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or Speech and Language Difficulties.
Training in specific SEN support strategies or interventions (e.g., Makaton, PECS, TEACCH).
