Specialist - Market Intelligence (Nickel)

Purpose:

This role will support our Nickel business.

This is a key role in the provision of nickel market intelligence that drives commercial decisions by capturing insights, utilising data and information gathered from the industry or service providers. Analysis and forecasting of industry / sector trends and market outlook, identifying opportunities and threats, with the objective of promoting views and ideas to support the sales team.

Market Intelligence plays a central role in assessing how to capitalise on commercial opportunities through sound analysis and forecasting of commodity markets and successful interactions with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

Performance & Delivery

• Delivery of market intelligence to stakeholders through the process that includes gathering, collating, filtering, analysing, and interpreting market data and intelligence specific to the nickel market and related industry.
• Tailor outcomes to directly support commercial decision-making and discovery of trading opportunities.
• An expectation to increasingly display leadership and individual initiative in provision of insights in a pro-active vs reactive manner.
• Responsible for the daily capture and communication of collective knowledge gathered from the Sales & Marketing Teams as well as other internal and external sources via various channels and portals.
• Support the generation of ideas, challenge and aligning with the Nickel sales team, including proposals for specific trading actions.
• Responsible for the build out of price and statistical forecasting models to identify arbitrage opportunities on various commercial variables
• Act as a key interface with external market analysts, and data & research providers to uncover intelligence used to advise the Nickel sales team.
• Conduct monthly and quarterly market analysis used as an input to the quarterly market forecasts, weekly reports, daily internal notes and ad hoc reports and internal studies.
• Generating topical reports based on personal initiative and observations. Communicating and presenting the results.
• Providing in-depth profiles to assist with customer discovery and strategic initiatives, supplemented by site visits. Involvement in planning and leading visits to gain ‘on the ground’ insights.

Compliance

• Adherence to all Anglo American Group policies and procedures, as well as observing proper standards of conduct relating to the role.
• Comply with Anglo American Security and Operating Standards

• At least 5 years marketing / trading / analysis experience on Nickel and/or related products targeting the stainless and specialty steel segment
• Comprehensive knowledge around industry trends and developments in the relevant markets (nickel, molybdenum, chrome, stainless steel etc.)
• Knowledge of nickel and stainless steel processing technologies
• Good collaborative sprit
• Good interpersonal skills targeting both internal and external stakeholders
• Good communication skills
