About the Company
We are recruiting for an established UK transport and engineering business delivering general haulage, specialist transport and heavy-lift projects. You will work within an operation where reliable equipment, practical expertise and close teamwork support demanding customer assignments.
The Role
We are looking for a maintenance engineer with direct experience of specialist heavy-transport trailers and self-propelled modular transporters. You will inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and associated electrical systems, supporting reliable equipment availability for specialist transport projects.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, service and repair specialist trailer and SPMT equipment within your training and authorisation.
Use a systematic approach to identify mechanical, hydraulic and relevant electrical/control faults.
Work from available manufacturer information and obtain specialist support when a task falls outside your competence.
Document defects, diagnostic findings, repairs and any restrictions on return to service.
Coordinate with workshop colleagues and operational teams to understand equipment faults and repair priorities.
Apply suitable isolation, support and stored-energy controls before maintenance.
Support inspection readiness and safe testing in line with agreed procedures.
Contribute to organised workshop routines and reliable equipment handovers.
Skills and Experience Required
Direct maintenance experience on specialist heavy-transport trailers, SPMTs or closely related modular transport equipment.
Evidence of personally diagnosing and repairing relevant equipment, not operating it alone.
A relevant mechanical/plant/heavy-equipment qualification or equivalent technical training and demonstrated competence.
Confidence with hydraulic systems and the mechanical and electrical interfaces relevant to the equipment maintained.
Accurate defect reporting, safe working judgement and a cooperative approach.
Desirable Experience
Experience with older specialist transport equipment and mixed equipment generations.
Heavy-lift or specialist transport workshop experience.
Relevant manufacturer maintenance training.
Candidate Profile
You bring direct maintenance experience on specialist transport equipment and can diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and associated control-system faults. You take pride in accurate repairs, clear records and safe equipment handovers.
Package and Working Arrangements
We offer varied technical work within a specialist transport and engineering operation, with a three-month probation and review. Contact us to discuss the role-specific hourly rate, overtime arrangements and benefits.
This opportunity offers specialist maintenance work on heavy-transport trailers and self-propelled modular transporters, supporting the equipment behind complex heavy-load movements.
