Our client is a leading UK manufacturer of commercial vehicle trailers and rigid vehicle bodies, is looking to recruit an experienced Stores Manager to take responsibility for the effective management of its stores and materials operation.
This is a key position within a busy engineering and manufacturing environment, ensuring materials, components and consumables are accurately controlled and available to production when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Manage the day-to-day operation of the manufacturing stores department.
* Lead, manage and develop the stores team.
* Ensure materials and components are available to production in line with manufacturing schedules.
* Maintain accurate stock and inventory records.
* Manage goods-in, storage, picking, issuing and movement of materials.
* Ensure effective stock location and identification systems are maintained.
* Monitor stock levels and identify shortages or potential supply issues.
* Work closely with Production, Purchasing, Planning and other manufacturing departments.
* Manage stocktakes, cycle counts and inventory reconciliation.
* Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
* Improve stores processes, material flow and inventory accuracy.
* Ensure materials are stored safely and appropriately.
* Monitor departmental KPIs and drive improvements in performance.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organisation.
* Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed throughout the stores operation.
* Support continuous improvement and waste-reduction initiatives.
* Manage team performance, training, absence and day-to-day personnel matters.
* Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and service to production.
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have:
* Previous Stores Manager, Materials Manager, Warehouse Manager or similar experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Strong stock control and inventory management experience.
* Experience managing the flow of materials into a production environment.
* Proven team-management and leadership experience.
* Good understanding of goods-in, material storage, picking and issuing processes.
* Experience with stocktaking and cycle counting.
* Ability to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
* Experience working with ERP, MRP or stock-management systems.
* Strong organisational and planning skills.
* Good understanding of Health & Safety within a stores/warehouse environment.
* Ability to work effectively with Production, Purchasing, Planning and other departments.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Experience within automotive, commercial vehicles, fabrication, engineering, heavy manufacturing or a similar manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant, although direct truck and trailer industry experience is not essential.
