Job Description - Student Support Assistant

Student Support Assistant – Petworth, West Sussex
Generous Pension contribution after 3 months.
Start: 1 September 2026
Salary: £18,245.21 pa (actual for term time only)

Our client is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school that nurtures academic excellence, sporting success and creative talent. The 400-acre campus on the edge of the South Downs is an area of outstanding beauty.

They are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated Student Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of one particular student by supporting learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
As a Student Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide targeted support for students, including those with additional needs. You will help create a positive, inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide in-class and one-to-one support to students
• Assist with the implementation of individual support plans
• Support students’ emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
• Help students to engage with learning activities and reach their potential
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies
• Contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment

We are looking for someone who:
• Is patient, empathetic, and committed to supporting young people
• Has experience working with children or young people (desirable)
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Can build positive relationships with students and colleagues
• Is calm, resilient, and able to respond to a range of situations
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
