ROLE SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF JOB

Part of the HENI group since 2016, Prudence Cuming was established in 1967 as a photographic studio specialising in fine art. Prudence Cuming works with museums, institutions, artists, designers and private collectors, and has a wealth of experience photographing objects ranging from paintings to sculpture and luxury goods. Prudence Cuming provides a complete and bespoke photographic service, including photography, filming, retouching, 3D Design, scanning and digital printing, working from their studio in Mayfair, London or on location.

We are looking for a proactive and organised Assistant to join our busy studio. We are open to considering all levels, though it would be advantageous to have 1-2 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in Photography and Art, as well as a clean UK driving license.

This role will be based in our London studio with frequent travel to Location, depending on clients’ needs – including overnight stays, travel to Europe, and other international locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

  • Assisting our team of in-house photographers, both in our London studio and on Location.
  • Understanding clients’ briefs, amending images according to clients' instructions when necessary.
  • Maintaining and managing a tidy workflow of digital files, naming images to client specifications and storing safely on a server.
  • Maintaining a tidy and organised studio.
  • Keeping a detailed log of time spent on jobs for accurate invoicing where appropriate.
  • Looking after and making sure all equipment is in full working order, including maintenance.
  • Managing time and projects effectively meeting ongoing deadlines.
  • Researching new techniques and advances in industry technology.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Ideally 1-2 years of commercial experience in similar industries.
  • Experience using Phase one IQ and Nikon camera systems.
  • Knowledge of Profoto studio flash and continuous lighting including polarised lights for paintings.
  • Knowledge of focus stacking and making stacked files using helicon focus software.
  • Excellent knowledge of Capture One, shooting tethered to a computer.
  • Good eye for colour matching original artworks to captured screen images.
  • Good Photoshop knowledge, including spotting sensor dust, pathing objects, putting compositions together and layer masks.
  • Familiarity with using Apple computers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, building trusted relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Flexibility – may involve working outside of core hours (late or weekend work) and travel.
  • Ability to multitask and work to strict deadlines.
  • Problem-solver/solution finder to ensure smooth running of the studio.
