Job Description - Support Worker for Young People in Crisis

Make a Meaningful Difference in a Young Person’s Life
Become a Children’s Support Worker

Imagine supporting a young person who is navigating uncertainty, change, and complex challenges. They may feel unsettled or unsure of what the future holds—but with the right support, guidance, and consistency, they can begin to rebuild confidence and move forward.

As a Children’s Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing that stability. Your presence, encouragement, and care can have a lasting and meaningful impact on a young person’s life.

We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individuals to join a team supporting children and young people in care. Whether you have prior experience or are looking for a rewarding new challenge, this is an opportunity to contribute to positive, lasting outcomes.

About the Role

The service provides essential 24/7 wraparound support for children and young people in local authority care, particularly during periods of transition and uncertainty. The focus is on creating safe, structured, and nurturing environments while supporting each young person to progress towards a positive future.

Key Responsibilities

While no two days are the same, your role will involve:

  • Providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to ensure young people feel safe and supported
  • Building positive, professional relationships and promoting healthy routines
  • Supporting daily living activities, including meal preparation, education, and development of life skills
  • Advocating for young people to ensure their voices are heard and respected
  • Supporting attendance at medical appointments and participation in community activities
  • Transporting young people when required (using your own vehicle)
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and readiness for the next stage of their lives

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (paid or voluntary)
  • A full UK driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with patience, empathy, and emotional resilience
  • Flexibility to work waking nights, weekends, and sleep-ins when required
  • A clear enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

A relevant qualification (NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential.

What Is Offered

Competitive pay:

  • £17.50ph – £24.00ph PAYE Rate (including holiday pay)
  • £20.00ph – £28.00ph Umbrella Rate

Training and development:

  • In-depth online modules, alongside in-person training in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support, and related areas
  • Clear opportunities for career progression, including Senior Support Worker roles

Additional benefits:

  • Flexible working schedules
  • Casual dress code
  • Company pension
  • Referral bonuses

Why Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference by supporting a young person to feel safe, valued, and empowered. Through consistent care and guidance, you will help them build confidence and develop the skills needed for a more positive and independent future.

If you are motivated to support young people and committed to delivering high-quality care, this role provides the training, support, and progression opportunities to help you succeed.

Apply today to begin making a meaningful impact.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to the nature of the role, which involves working with vulnerable young people. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people is a priority, and all applicants will be expected to share this commitment.
