Support Worker - Mental Health

Location: Chelmsford, Essex
Salary: £26,298.11 per annum
Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: 7-day rolling rota, including evenings and one weekend in every two

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Support Worker to join a specialist support service in Chelmsford.

The role involves providing practical, emotional and social support to adults with enduring mental health needs, helping individuals work towards greater independence and achieve their personal recovery goals.

You will work alongside clients to identify their goals, develop resilience and practical life skills, maintain their accommodation and access appropriate services and opportunities within the community. The role also involves working with individuals with complex needs and dual diagnosis, where required.

You will be expected to work across different services and locations, building positive relationships with clients, colleagues and external professionals.

About You

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and able to build positive, professional relationships with people from a range of backgrounds.

Ideally, you will have experience of working with adults with enduring mental health needs or within a similar support setting. Experience of working with people with complex needs, dual diagnosis or supporting individuals towards greater independence would be advantageous.

You should be confident working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team. Good communication skills, professional boundaries and the ability to recognise when someone may need additional support are essential.

The successful candidate will also need to be flexible as the service operates across 7 days, with shifts generally between 8:00am and 9:30pm. This is a rolling rota with one working weekend approximately every two weeks, meaning you will not be required to work every weekend. The rota is arranged in advance and flexibly according to the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include providing person-centred support in clients' homes and within the community, helping individuals work towards agreed recovery goals and supporting them to develop greater independence.

You will assist with areas such as tenancy sustainment, benefits, healthcare, education, employment and community engagement, as well as liaising with external agencies including GPs, social services, mental health teams and other relevant services.

You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate support records, contributing to support plans and risk assessments, and ensuring that support is delivered in line with relevant policies and procedures.
