Role Purpose

As Global Sustainability Manager – Plastics, you will be a key driver of B&W’s plastics and sustainability agenda, leading governance, supporting brands and business units, and delivering a bold, social-first communication plan that inspires action and advocacy both internally and externally. You will help position B&W as a global leader in sustainable beauty, driving progress towards our ambitious 2026 and long-term Plastics targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the One Unilever Plastic Committee to identify and scale innovative solutions for transformational change.

Communication & Advocacy

  • Develop and execute a dynamic, social-first communication plan that brings B&W’s sustainability ambition to life, energising employees, building advocacy, and shaping external reputation.

  • Facilitate the development of B&W Sustainability achievement and progress into compelling stories and campaigns across internal and external channels (e.g., Viva Engage, Inside Unilever, Unilever.com, industry events).

  • Develop high-impact toolkits, briefs, and presentations for senior leaders, partners, and NGOs, ensuring every message is clear, inspiring, and action-oriented.

  • Champion the plastics and sustainability narrative, integrating science, innovation, and progress into all communications to drive belief and pride in B&W’s leadership.

  • Measure and optimise communication impact using sentiment and engagement data, continuously raising the bar for reach and influence.

Sustainability Support/Counsel:

  • Provide expert sustainability counsel to brands, business units, and functions, helping them translate ambition into commercially relevant, consumer-centric propositions.

  • Support the development of strategies and plans that drive value creation, protect Unilever’s licence to operate, and deliver positive impact for people and planet.

  • Bring the outside in, catalysing new thinking and embedding sustainability as a driver of brand superiority and business growth.

Essential Skills & Relevant Experience

  • 5 years of experience working in sustainability or plastics and packaging related projects, ideally within FMCG, Beauty or Wellbeing sectors (or closely related sectors).

  • Strong consumer and marketing insight, with the ability to translate sustainability ambition into engaging product and brand stories.

  • Strong communication skills, being able to distil complex topics into simple, inspiring messages and campaigns.

  • Ability to influence stakeholders and influencing skills, with experience convening diverse internal and external partners.

  • Research and analytical thinking.

  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with a drive for high-quality, impactful work.

  • Commitment to protecting and preserving the health of the planet.

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.

What can I do?

If you become aware of potential recruitment fraud, spot fake Unilever recruitment adverts or fake LinkedIn profiles, report them via Una Live Chat.

Unilever does not accept responsibility or liability for any candidates who are financially impacted by recruitment fraud. Your vigilance is key!
