HS2 is Great Britain’s new high-speed railway. Once operational, HS2’s trains will provide journeys between Birmingham and London, with services continuing on to Manchester, the Northwest and Scotland using the conventional railway. The new route comprises 140-miles of track, four stations, two depots, 32 miles of tunnel, and 130 bridges. The first HS2 services will run between Birmingham Curzon Street and Old Oak Common in London between 2029 and 2033.
HS2 are in the process of procuring c12 railway systems contracts, in excess of £4b, for the design, supply, construction, test & commissioning and maintenance for the route between London and Birmingham
Costain has successfully awarded 2 of these packages worth multiple hundreds of £millions:
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Systems Integration and Assurance Manager, the Systems Engineer (Requirements & Configuration) works with the project engineering and design teams and other specialists to:
Developing the Requirements Management processes, Configuration / Change Management processes and procedures in line with both the Costain and Client (HS2) requirements.
Ensuring the application of the Requirements Management Plan and processes to elicit, analyse, record and verify / validate the requirements of the Package 3 Rail Systems contract for HS2.
Ensuring the application of the Configuration Management Plan and processes on the Package 3 Rail Systems contract for HS2.
Working with design teams subcontractors and subject matter experts to allocate requirements to Asset level requirements specification and to determine the relevant appropriate verification and validation activities.
Reporting on the performance of the Requirements Management, Verification & Validation process as well as Configuration Management.
Maintain the Change Management process, including maintaining change and configuration registers.
Driving innovation in the requirements management and configuration management approach.
Prepare and deliver training and briefings to promote awareness of the requirements, configuration / change management process and activities within the project team.
Fostering collaborative working within the team and the project team through data base management, team integration and workflows.
Collaborative working within the HS2 Subject Matter Experts as required, and credible in building relationships.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
Experienced in the use of DOORS to manage project requirements
Experience of the application of configuration / change management processes in major projects
Capable of working collaboratively and effectively with project delivery teams, management and the project leadership and credible in building relationships with all levels of stakeholders
Desirable
Previous experience of working on large infrastructure projects, multidisciplinary teams, in particular experience in civil engineering or rail would be an advantage
