Are you an experienced Housing Adviser with in-depth knowledge of housing legislation and a passion for helping vulnerable individuals? The London Borough of Sutton is seeking a Targeted Housing Adviser to join their Housing Advice, Information, and Assessment service on an interim basis. You'll play a key role in providing proactive housing advice and support to prevent homelessness and help service users live independently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of clients, delivering advice on housing options, tenancy rights, welfare benefits, and housing-related support services.

• Conduct assessments to determine eligibility for accommodation and services, ensuring compliance with housing legislation (including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Act 2002 & 2004).

• Develop person-centred action plans and provide tailored solutions to meet the needs of individuals and families.

• Provide clear and robust decision letters in line with legal requirements and best practices.

• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external partners to provide comprehensive support.

• Identify and mitigate risks related to client housing situations, escalating issues where necessary.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.

Requirements:

• Significant experience providing housing advice and support, particularly in a local authority or public sector setting.

• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Act 2002 & 2004.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex legislation to a variety of audiences.

• Proven ability to manage a caseload and work effectively in a customer-facing role.

• Strong decision-making and organisational skills, with a focus on delivering solutions.

• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, attending the office twice a week as required.
