Tax & VAT Accountant

As the specialist of our VAT compliance framework, you'll spearhead the organization's adherence to complex VAT regulations while building robust internal controls that minimize risk exposure. Your expertise will be instrumental in preparing, reviewing, and submitting critical VAT returns, providing strategic tax guidance across departments, and seamlessly managing audit processes and regulatory reporting.

Description

Regulatory Oversight: Maintain VAT compliance across all business activities, developing exception reporting systems to monitor adherence and implementing robust controls that mitigate compliance risks.

VAT Analysis & Reconciliation: Review and reconcile VAT positions for UK entities, investigating discrepancies and ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliation for VAT and tax accounts.

Legislative Updates & Advisory: Monitor VAT legislation changes, educate stakeholders on implications, and provide strategic guidance on VAT impacts of transactions, new products, and contracts.

HMRC Relations: Serve as primary liaison with HMRC, managing inquiries, audits, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for audit trails and reporting requirements.

Process Optimization: Collaborate across departments to enhance VAT reporting systems and processes, supporting senior management in strengthening financial controls and procedures.

Corporation Tax Support: Assist the Senior Financial Accountant with corporation tax accounting, annual returns, group reporting, and maintaining the internal tax risk register.

Forecasting & Planning: Support balance sheet and cashflow forecasting for VAT accounts, contributing to budgeting processes and payment planning.

Audit Coordination: Partner with internal and external auditors throughout the year, delivering comprehensive support across all tax areas during audit processes.

Additional Responsibilities: Provide flexible support for ad hoc projects and team coverage as required by management.

Profile

A successful VAT & Tax Accountant should have:

• Professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, or CTA).
• Strong knowledge of VAT regulations and tax compliance processes.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Proven experience developing comprehensive financial models and forecasts across P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow, utilizing advanced tools and analytical techniques to drive strategic decision-making
• Skilled in transforming complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that inform business strategy and operational improvement.
• Track record of strengthening financial systems, streamlining processes, and implementing robust controls to enhance operational efficiency and data integrity.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to be a self starter and work under pressure when required
