Private Client - Tax Associate
Location: Southampton | £28,000 - £38,000
This role would be suitable for anyone with the following background:
Employment Tax, Expat Tax, Share Scheme Tax, Corporate Tax (with SMEs), Law firm and Banking candidates with tax exposure, and financial PA's doing AAT or AT.
Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing Private Client Tax team within a leading accountancy and advisory practice. The team supports a diverse client base including high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), families, entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses (OMBs), private equity clients, and trusts. The role offers a balance of UK tax compliance and increasingly advisory work, with career development opportunities and exposure to international tax matters.

Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a key point of contact for a portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality service and advice.
- Manage client projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery within budget.
- Provide clear and practical technical advice on complex private client tax matters.
- Review work prepared by junior team members and provide feedback.
- Liaise with HMRC on client matters.
- Identify technical risks and commercial opportunities and escalate appropriately.
- Contribute to team and firm-wide initiatives, including internal training and process improvements.
Management Responsibilities:
- Support Partners, Directors, and Managers in managing the wider team.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and mentoring of junior staff.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to team development and performance management.
Business Development:
- Identify and support new business opportunities, working on proposals and developing relationships with intermediaries.
- Participate in pitches and marketing initiatives.
Communication:
- Build strong relationships with clients at all levels.
- Act as a liaison between clients and other internal service lines.
- Represent the team at internal and external events where appropriate.
Desirable:
- Educated to degree level and working towards or qualified in CTA / ACA or equivalent.
- Significant experience in private client tax, including compliance and advisory.
- Strong technical skills and ability to explain complex issues clearly.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior staff.
- Commercially aware, with a track record of identifying and developing business opportunities.
- Proactive, collaborative and able to work independently when needed.
