Job Description - Teacher of English for Future Technologists (Summer Fixed Term)

What's on Offer:

Location: Bedford
Salary: Between £534-£549 per week (Commensurate with experience)
Contract Type: Fixed Term Summer Contract (Available During June 2025 – July 2025)
Hours: 30 hours per week

Overview:

Teachers on our Future Technologists summer programme are responsible for delivering effective lessons with measurable outcomes and acting as facilitators for First Lego League® sessions, including the Robot Games, to our learners from all over the world. There is some necessary paperwork to complete and weekly reports to write for students. You will adhere to BSC Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies while working with us. You might be asked to participate in non-academic duties if the need arises. The main duties and responsibilities are listed below:

 

 

Duties:

  • Plan and Deliver language focused and engaging lessons.
  • Teach 30 hours a week + 12 hours of activities/excursions/pastoral duties
  • Work 6 days a week (Monday-Sunday)
  • Follow BSC Future technologists’ syllabus
  • Communicate enthusiasm and instil confidence in learners particularly in regard to STEM topics
  • Complete weekly planners, attendance sheets, and student reports
  • Be observed and receive feedback
  • Work as part of the academic team and support the summer team as a whole
  • Attend and participate in academic meetings and INSETT sessions
  • Complete pre-employment curriculum training
  • Assist with placement testing 
  • Attend induction held at the centre
  • Remain professional at all times
  • Comply with BSC Uniform Policy (BSC t-shirts are provided
  • Comply with BSC Centre rules and regulations

Child Protection & Safeguarding

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with.
  • Familiarise yourself with the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy.
  • To adhere to the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy.
  • Report any student absence to the Welfare Team and Director of Studies
  • Report safeguarding issues if/when they occur
  • Complete BSC Safeguarding Level 1 Online before you arrive at the centre

  • Work positively as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Attend and participate in all centre team meetings.  
  • Act in the welfare of the students at all times
  • To carry out any duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Centre

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • CELTA/ Trinity TESOL/ B.Ed. in TEFL/TESOL/ PGCE in languages with QTS plus experience teaching ESL students
  • Experience working with young learners is desirable
  • High level of computer literacy, particularly MS Office, email, and use of databases 
  • Excellent lesson planning skills 
  • Have an interest in problem-solving and STEM-related topics
  • Proven problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on fostering creative thinking and enthusiasm in students
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Ability to work well in a team 
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure 
  • Enthusiasm for summer school life  
  • Right to work in the UK/EU (depending on the respective centre)
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
  • Knowledge of First Lego League programme is desirable but not essential
