Job Description - Teaching assistant

SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant
  • Job Type: Temp to Perm
  • Location: Milton Keynes
  • Working Hours: 08:30 - 16:30
  • Start Date: September

We are seeking a dedicated SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team, working with students who have autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of students, providing support and fostering a positive learning environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support the educational and social development of students with special educational needs (SEN) and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
  • Work closely with teachers to tailor learning activities to the individual needs of students, ensuring they engage effectively in lessons.
  • Implement behavioural management strategies to handle challenging behaviour and promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Plans.
  • Provide one-to-one support and group support within the classroom setting.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism and ADHD.
  • Understanding of the strategies needed to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • A relevant teaching assistant or childcare qualification is preferred.
