Job Description - Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

Location: Longsight, Manchester
Contract: Temporary to Permanent | Full-time | Term-time only

Simply Education are proud to be working with a specialist SEMH school in Longsight, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a school where progress is measured not just in grades, but in confidence, emotional growth, and positive change.

The school offers a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to regulate emotions, rebuild trust, and re-engage with learning at their own pace.

About the Role

This is not your average Teaching Assistant role it's a chance to be a positive role model, calm presence, and consistent support for pupils who need it most.

You'll work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, helping them navigate their emotions, build resilience, and access learning in a way that works for them. Every day is different, fast-paced, and genuinely rewarding.

This temporary to permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives on challenge, values relationships, and believes in second chances.

What You'll Be Doing

Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
Using recognised de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
Assisting with learning activities across the curriculum
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and supportive learning environmentYou'll play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development across the school.

Essential Requirements

You must hold current training in de-escalation and behaviour management including at least one of the following: Team Teach, MAPA / Skip Training, PRICE Training

The Ideal Candidate

You're calm under pressure, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting vulnerable young people. You may come from a background in:

SEMH or SEND education
Youth work or mentoring
Care or behaviour supportMost importantly, you bring patience, empathy, and consistency and the belief that every young person can succeed with the right support.
