Location: The Corner School, Douglas Avenue, Brent, London

Salary: Pro-rata to term time only £21,149 - £22,369 (FTE £28,199 - £29,825 depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time, 38.5 hours a week, term-time only 39 weeks

About the role

As a Teaching Assistant at The Corner School, you’ll play a vital role in helping our children feel safe, confident and ready to learn. Working closely with our Class Teachers, therapists and wider school team, you’ll support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) through both learning and behavioural support. Every day will involve patience, creativity and connection, whether you’re delivering learning activities, helping pupils regulate, or celebrating those small but meaningful steps forward.

You’ll be joining a nurturing, specialist school where relationships come first, therapeutic approaches shape everything we do, and every child is supported to unlock their potential.

We’ll look to you to:

Learning & personal development support

• Support pupils in class or on a 1:1 basis across KS1–KS2, including phonics, literacy and numeracy.


• Help prepare and deliver learning activities, adapting materials where needed and using IT to create engaging learning experiences.


• Give pupils consistent praise, feedback and opportunities to reflect on their learning.


• Work closely with therapists to apply their recommendations and implement support plans.

Behaviour support

• Use consistent behaviour strategies, fairly and consistently, including de-escalation (training provided).


• Build positive, trusting relationships and provide emotional support when pupils feel dysregulated.

Wellbeing & safety

• Ensure children’s safety at all times; following First Aid, safeguarding and risk assessment procedures (training provided).


• Promote inclusion


• After relevant training has been provided, support pupils with personal/intimate care when necessary. Ensure safeguarding guidelines in relation to personal/intimate care are followed at all times.

General responsibilities

• Attend briefings, training and meetings.

• Complete admin tasks, reports and maintain accurate behaviour records.

• Build strong working relationships with colleagues and uphold all school policies.


• Contribute to ongoing school development and improvement.

About you

You’ll be someone who brings warmth, patience and curiosity to every interaction. You can hold clear boundaries with kindness, stay grounded when things feel challenging, and work closely with colleagues to create a safe, structured environment.

We’re looking for:

• A good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).


• Experience working with children with SEMH and/or SEN in a primary setting.


• Understanding of behaviour support, de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies.


• Ability to support learning, plan activities, and adapt materials.


• Strong communication, literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.


• A thoughtful, empathetic approach and genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH.


• Resilience, reliability and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.

It’s a bonus (not essential) if you have:

• Relevant CPD, First Aid, or experience with EHCPs, phonics, or safe holding approaches.

You’ll be working daily with children who may display verbal or physical behaviours linked to SEMH needs. You must feel confident following behaviour plans, using de-escalation strategies and participating in PRICE (Protecting Rights in a Caring Environment) training.

About The Corner School

The Corner School is a small, specialist day school for primary-aged children with SEMH needs. We provide a safe, nurturing environment with small classes, high staff ratios and a trauma-informed, sensory-aware approach. Our curriculum is imaginative and personalised, helping each child grow in confidence, build meaningful relationships and feel proud of their progress.

Therapeutic work is integrated throughout the school day, with close collaboration between teaching staff and on-site therapists. We work closely with families to create consistent, holistic support around each child.

The Corner School is now part of The Mulberry Bush, a nationally recognised therapeutic charity supporting children who have experienced early trauma. While we operate as a day school with our own identity and approach, being part of The Mulberry Bush offers rich professional development, reflective practice and a wider community of expertise.
