Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Tenbury High Ormiston Academy

Tenbury High Ormiston Academy is a truly unique, small, rural 11-16 academy in the beautiful setting of North-West Worcestershire. It is part of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) which is one of the largest notfor-profit multi-academy trusts in England who educate over 30,000 pupils across six English regions, in 31 secondary schools, seven primary schools and one special school. It is one of the longest established trusts and has been sponsoring academies since 2009. About the role



Key details:



  • Working week: Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, shifts TBC, term-time only. 

  • Wage: £7.55 per hour 

  • Location: Oldbury Road, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, WR15 8XA 

  • Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 Teaching Assistant

  • Duration: 16 months



Overview of the role: 



This role involves working under the direction of teaching or senior staff to support the physical, general, and learning care of pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). It includes supervising individuals or groups, supporting pupil access to learning, and providing general assistance to the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom. Additional tasks may be carried out as reasonably directed by the Senior Leadership Team and SENDCo.



Responsibilities will include:




Support for Pupils:



  • Attend to the pupils' personal needs and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, first aid and welfare matters

  • Lead one to one or small group interventions where appropriate to support pupils academic, personal, social and emotional progress.

  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning

  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs

  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher

  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate

  • Assisting with the promotion of independence activities and mobility skills.



Support for the Teacher:



  • Prepare classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards and assist with the display of pupils work

  • Be aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed

  • Undertake pupil record keeping as requested

  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate

  • Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed

  • Provide clerical/admin support e.g. photocopying, typing and filing.



Support for the School:



  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals

  • Attend relevant meetings and training as required

  • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training

  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school

  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required



Apprenticeship Summary:




  • You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months!

  • All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release

  • An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship!

Apprenticeship Overview



During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.




  • Milestone 1. Keeping children safe in Education – (KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, serious case reviews, health, safety and wellbeing legislation)

  • Milestone 2. Professional Standards and Personal Accountability – (Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development)

  • Milestone 3. Child Development and Behaviours – (Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management).

  • Milestone 4. Curriculum and Technology – (School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages)

  • Milestone 5. Learning and Assessment Strategies – (Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND Strategies and partnership working)

  • Milestone 6. Prep for End Point Assessment
