Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Kingsham Primary School

Overview of role:



School staff know that no two days are the same and that no two children are the same either. Supporting a wide range of learning activities, you will support the Class Teacher to ensure a safe environment, prepare resources, and in developing independent thinking and promoting excellent behaviour for learning. This may include supporting learners on a one-to-one or small group basis. This post will also include lunchtime supervision.



Key details:




  • Hours: Monday to Friday (8.30am to 4pm), 35 hours per week

  • Term-time only (38 weeks per year)

  • Wage: £7.55 per hour

  • Location: Hay Rd, Chichester PO19 8BN



Apprenticeship details:




  • Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification 

  • Duration of course: 16 months

  • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated No 1 Training Provider in the UK!)

  • All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside role.



Full Duties and Responsibilities:




  • In liaison with, and under the guidance of, the Class Teacher and following best practice, appropriately support pupils on an individual or small group basis to understand instructions and complete activities. Encourage and develop independent learning and the inclusion of all pupils to ensure progression and continuity.

  • Assist with learning across the whole curriculum to support learning outcomes, using the teacher’s planned teaching and learning methods. Support pupils in the use of ICT and promote IT as a tool to enable learning.

  • Contribute to pupils’ development and their physical and mental wellbeing by promoting appropriate behaviours, instilling positive habits, and helping to keep pupils on task, in line with School and Trust policies and procedures.

  • Support the social and emotional well-being of pupils by providing positive feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain their efforts, and by helping to develop their self-reliance and self-esteem. Report concerns to the teacher or, where appropriate and in line with School policy, such as in matters of health and safety, child protection, or behaviour management.

  • As directed by the Class Teacher, monitor pupils’ responses to learning, provide feedback to the teacher on pupils’ progress, and record basic pupil data in line with School procedures.

  • Support the learning of children by implementing intervention programmes to help meet targets as required by the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice, and as identified in the pupil’s plan, including the completion of relevant documentation.

  • Take responsibility for the classroom environment, including preparing and clearing away materials and resources as required. Contribute to a positive and visually supportive learning space where pupils can thrive and learn safely.

  • Assist in playtime supervision by facilitating games and activities, encouraging independence, and promoting developmentally appropriate behaviour. Depending on the year group, assist pupils with eating, dressing, and hygiene as needed.

  • Assist with special events and extracurricular activities across the Academy, such as sports days, plays, concerts, open days, day trips, and educational visits.

  • Support general lunchtime supervision duties if required.

  • Provide general administrative support and attend meetings and training sessions as required and directed by your line manager or Headteacher.



Skills & Personal Qualities:




  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).

  • Awareness of the primary national curriculum and the SEND Code of Practice.

  • Understanding of positive behaviour strategies and safeguarding in a primary school setting.

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and National Occupational Standards (Level 2).

  • Relevant higher qualifications desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support and motivate pupils at different learning levels.

  • Skilled in delivering intervention programmes and providing effective feedback on pupil progress.

  • Problem-solving approach to pupil support and behaviour.

  • Confident using ICT to enhance learning; good spelling and literacy skills.

  • Ability to personalise support to make learning engaging and enjoyable.



Qualifications Requirements:




  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) English (Grade 4) essential

  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) Maths (Grade 4) essential
