Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship – Brunel Field Primary School

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join us as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice.



Apprenticeship Summary:





  • Salary: £7.55 an hour

  • Working Week: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 3:30pm

  • Hours: 32.5 hours per week

  • Online apprenticeship training supported by our skilled tutors 

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification 

  • Location: Brunel Field Primary School, College Road Bristol, Bristol, BS7 9FT



The Role:



We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and supportive Teaching Assistant to work collaboratively with teaching staff to enhance the educational experience of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will provide in-class support, contribute to a safe and stimulating learning environment, and attend to the individual needs of students to help them achieve their personal development and educational goals.



Main Duties:



The successful candidate will:




  • Support individual and group learning activities, including those for children with SEND, based on teacher-led plans.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and reinforce structured learning habits.

  • Assist with pupils’ physical, emotional, and educational development.

  • Help prepare, organise, and maintain classroom materials and displays.

  • Support assessment and progress tracking of pupils’ learning plans.

  • Provide care for children's personal, social, and behavioural needs.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and professionals to deliver specialist support.

  • Carry out basic medical or care procedures after appropriate training.

  • Contribute to observation and record-keeping to monitor pupil development.

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.



The Candidate:



The successful candidate will have the following:



Qualifications:



  • GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths, plus additional academic subjects.

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant field (e.g., Childcare, Education Support).

  • First Aid knowledge or certification (desirable).


 


Experience:



  • At least 1 year of experience working in child-focused settings (e.g., schools, care, or development environments).

  • Familiarity with Health & Safety, Hygiene, Child Welfare, and Safeguarding regulations.

  • Experience supporting children’s development and learning across varied educational stages.


 


Skills & Aptitudes:



  • Strong communication, empathy, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport across ages and backgrounds.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team structure.

  • Adaptable, flexible, and positive approach to structured working environments.

  • Ability to plan, review, and manage responsibilities without close supervision.

  • Understanding of diversity, equality, and inclusion principles.


 


Knowledge:



  • Understanding of how children learn and develop, and how to support progression effectively.

  • Awareness of the roles of teachers, parents/carers, and external agencies in a child's education.

  • Ability to communicate in a language other than English (desirable).


 


Training and Development:


 


As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:


 



  • Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma.

  • On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.

  • Regular review meetings to track progress and development.
