About the Role

Key details:

• Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm, 32.5 hours per week + Term-time only 


• Wage: £7.55 per hour


• Location: Watlington Road, Old Harlow, Essex, CM17 0DX

• Duration: 16 months

Overview of the role: 

The Teaching Assistant (TA) apprenticeship role is designed to support the educational development of pupils by providing targeted assistance in the classroom. Apprentices will work alongside qualified teachers to enhance pupil learning, particularly for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role involves delivering one-on-one support, facilitating group activities, and contributing to a positive learning environment, while gaining practical experience and training in educational practises.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 1 team at Harlowbury Primary School. The successful candidate will support the educational development of pupils in Years 1 and 2, particularly focusing on enhancing learning experiences for those with diverse needs, including pupils with SEND, ASD, and EAL.

Key responsibilities: 

Supporting Learning

• Assist the classroom teacher in delivering high-quality lessons and activities.


• Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop their skills.


• Facilitate the inclusion of all pupils in classroom activities, ensuring that they feel valued and supported.

Behaviour Management

• Help maintain a positive and productive classroom environment by promoting good behaviour and discipline.


• Implement strategies to support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviours effectively.

Communication

• Foster open communication with pupils, parents, and staff to support pupil progress and wellbeing.


• Prepare and maintain educational resources and materials for lessons.

Monitoring Progress

• Assist in assessing and recording pupils' progress, providing feedback to the teacher on individual and group performance.


• Support the implementation of individual learning plans for pupils with additional needs.

Professional Development

• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting teaching and learning.


• Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and contribute to the development of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.

Apprenticeship Summary:

• You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months!

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
