Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship – St Peter’s CE Primary School



St Peter’s CE Primary is a welcoming school in the heart of Harrogate, guided by our Love, Learn, Shine vision. Every child is valued for who they are, and we work closely with families to support their journey.



We are currently seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team.


 


Apprenticeship Summary:




  • Salary: £7.55 an hour

  • Working Week: Monday to Friday 8:45am – 3:15pm including a 30 minute break

  • Hours: 30 hours per week

  • Online apprenticeship training supported by our skilled tutors 

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification 

  • Locations: St Peter's CE Primary School, Belford Road, Harrogate, HG1 1JA


 


The Role:



To work with the class teacher supporting SEND pupils within class and on a one-to-one basis. 



Main Duties:


·       Help with planned learning and behaviour activities, and give feedback to support planning.


·       Ask questions to help pupils think and learn.


·       Support behaviour, teaching methods, and pupils' wellbeing (including health, emotional, and social needs).


·       Help create and follow individual support plans (like IEPs or behaviour plans).


·       Build one-to-one mentoring relationships with pupils.


·       Go on trips with pupils and help supervise them.


·       Give advice on learning, behaviour, and attendance.


·       Boost pupils’ confidence and keep them motivated.


·       Build good relationships with pupils, families, and other professionals.


·       Help with hygiene and personal care while promoting independence.


·       Support pupils using ICT and follow school rules about its use.


·       Supervise pupils during exams and make sure rules are followed.


·       Take part in training and development sessions.


 


The Candidate:



The successful candidate will have the following:


 


Knowledge


• An awareness of child/young person’s development and learning


• An understanding that children/Young people have differing needs


 


Experience


• Some experience appropriate to working with children


• Some experience working with children who have additional needs


 


Qualifications


• GCSE English and Maths


 


Occupational Skills


• Good written and verbal communication skills: able to communicate effectively and clearly and build relationships with a range of staff, children, young people, their families and carers


• Good reading, writing and numeracy Skills


• Basic ICT Skills


 


Personal Qualities


• Demonstrable interpersonal skills


• Ability to work successfully in a team.


• Confidentiality


• Flexibility


• Creativity

Training and Development:


 


As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:


·       Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma.


·       On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.


·       Regular review meetings to track progress and development.

The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification

Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship
