Team Leader
Salary: £33,400 per annum + on call allowance 
Location: Hexham, Northumberland
Contract/Hours: Permanent / Full Time – 37 hours per week (including evenings and weekends)

A bit about the role

As Team Leader at Monksfield, you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality, child‑centred care. You’ll lead, supervise and support a dedicated staff team, helping colleagues feel confident, well equipped and up to date with the training they need to provide personalised support for each young person.

You’ll oversee day‑to‑day operations, model best practice and represent young people by attending meetings when required. The role also includes participation in an on‑call rota across the Northeast cluster, offering leadership support when needed.

Working closely with the management team, you’ll take responsibility for compliance and quality checks, ensuring the home meets regulatory standards. Above all, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing and positive environment where every young person feels valued and supported.

About the Service 

Monksfield is a lively, energetic 24‑hour residential service, providing care and support seven days a week for children and young people who need a stable, nurturing and therapeutic environment. The home has a genuinely family‑like culture, where staff support one another, reflect together and celebrate every achievement — whether a young person builds confidence, tries something new or manages a difficult moment.

At it’s core, Monksfield is a place where every child is valued, encouraged and supported to experience life fully, without limits placed by disability. The team provides residential care for children and young people who need stability, consistency and a therapeutic approach. Staff work collaboratively to deliver meaningful activities, predictable routines and child‑centred support that promotes wellbeing, independence and positive outcomes.

The team is trained in trauma‑informed practice and works closely with families and external professionals to ensure each young person receives personalised, joined‑up care. Monksfield is a home filled with connection, purpose and possibility — a place where children can grow, thrive and feel truly understood.

What you do could make a difference

Some key responsibilities of a Team Leader role are to;

• Provide direct line management to the residential team, ensuring staff deliver consistently high standards of care and feel supported in their roles.
• Maintain a safe, positive and compliant work environment, ensuring the service meets regulatory requirements and follows all policies and procedures.
• Support young people to achieve positive outcomes, promoting their wellbeing, independence and personal development.
• Act as an advocate for young people, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are represented in all aspects of their care.
• Lead, guide and assess staff performance, including carrying out supervisions, appraisals, observations and risk assessments to support professional growth and safe practice.

Let’s talk about you

• Strong leadership skills and a genuine commitment to supporting young people to feel safe, valued and understood.
• Level 3 Diploma in Social Care (or an equivalent qualification) and the willingness to work towards the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England)
• Experience leading a team within a care setting, with the confidence to guide, support and motivate colleagues.
• Experience working in residential children’s services, with a solid understanding of trauma‑informed and child‑centred practice.
• Clear, accurate record‑keeping skills, including confident use of IT systems.
• Knowledge of Ofsted requirements and what high‑quality residential practice looks like.
• Understanding of GDPR, safeguarding and key policies that keep young people safe and ensure compliance.
