Job Description - Team Leader (Sales)

Working with a growing SME, based in North Bristol, as their Sales Support Team Leader, the primary function of this role is to lead the sales support department who will rely on your accuracy, communication, drive & leadership skills.

The Sales Support Team Leader is responsible for leading the day-to-day activity, performance and quality of the Sales Support team within a compliance-led facilities management environment. The role provides line management and workflow supervision, ensuring quotations, renewals, client approvals, purchase orders, written confirmations and sales packs are accurate, commercially sound and ready for operational handover. Working closely with the Head of Sales Account Management, Account Managers, Operations, technical colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors, the postholder ensures the team supports timely customer response, margin protection, risk escalation and effective progression from sales approval to operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, allocate and monitor the daily workload of the Sales Support team, ensuring enquiries, quotations, renewals, follow-ups and handovers are progressed in line with business priorities and agreed timescales.
• Provide line management, coaching, guidance and support to Sales Support team members, including performance conversations, development planning and day-to-day issue resolution.
• Review and approve quotations within delegated authority, ensuring pricing, labour assumptions, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, compliance requirements and margin expectations have been properly considered.
• Challenge pricing assumptions, margin position or incomplete commercial information where required, escalating significant concerns to the Head of Sales Account Management or relevant Account Manager.
• Stop or return incomplete sales packs, handovers or client-approved work instructions where information is insufficient for Operations to plan, schedule or deliver the work effectively.
• Ensure the team maintains accurate CRM, quote, renewal, follow-up and handover records to support pipeline visibility, management reporting and customer service.
• Act as the first point of escalation for Sales Support queries involving scope clarity, quotation quality, subcontractor information, commercial risk, customer response times or operational handover readiness.
• Coordinate with Account Managers, Operations, technical reviewers, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve missing information, clarify scope requirements and support timely progression through the sales process.
• Monitor the quality and consistency of sales support outputs, including quotation accuracy, handover completeness, documentation standards and adherence to agreed processes.
• Support tender submissions, commercial proposals and post-tender clarification activity, ensuring Sales Support input is accurate, timely and aligned with customer and operational requirements.
• Identify process improvements, recurring bottlenecks, training needs or system issues affecting the Sales Support function, recommending practical improvements to the Head of Sales Account Management.
• Maintain working knowledge of relevant compliance service areas, such as LEV, Water, PPM and Remedials, sufficient to support effective triage, escalation and coordination with technical specialists.
• Prepare, maintain and provide accurate sales support reporting, including pipeline, quotation, renewal, conversion, workload and handover data, to support management review, sales performance monitoring and board-level reporting requirements.
• Management reporting: ownership of sales support data, reports and board information.
• Systems/data ownership: responsibility for CRM integrity and the cost database.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong people management, coaching and team coordination skills.
• Sound commercial awareness, including the ability to review quotation quality, challenge assumptions and protect margin.
• Excellent attention to detail, particularly when checking pricing, scopes, client approvals, purchase orders, subcontractor information and handover packs.
• Ability to make proportionate decisions on quotation approval, escalation and whether information is sufficiently complete to progress.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise team workload across multiple enquiries, renewals, deadlines and operational handovers.
• Confident communication skills with Account Managers, Operations, technical colleagues, customers, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Practical understanding of sales support processes, CRM disciplines, quotation administration and pipeline reporting.
• Ability to identify commercial, operational and compliance risks and escalate them appropriately.
• Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify process gaps, recurring issues and training needs within the team.
• Working knowledge of compliance-led facilities management service areas, sufficient to support effective triage and coordination.
