Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant – Sensory Class Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-time (Monday–Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm)

We are a dedicated special school providing day provision for pupils aged 7 to 19 with a wide range of needs, including moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and associated speech, language and communication challenges.

The Role
We are seeking a passionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team from September. The successful candidate will support a sensory class, working with pupils who:
* Are mostly pre-verbal
* Require support with communication and interaction
* May display dysregulated behaviour and require consistent, structured support
The role will involve:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support within the classroom
* Supporting pupils with sensory-based learning activities
* Assisting with personal care where required
* Using positive behaviour strategies, including Team Teach approaches
* Working closely with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly ASD and complex needs (desirable but not essential)
* Is calm, patient, and able to build strong, trusting relationships
* Is confident supporting individuals with communication difficulties
* Can respond effectively to challenging behaviours using a consistent approach
* Is willing to undertake Team Teach training (or already trained)
* Is committed to promoting inclusion, respect, and equality
